Deucalion brings expert HPC mentoring to the EPICURE Hackathon in Porto

11/05/2026

The EuroHPC supercomputer Deucalion was part of the EPICURE Hackathon: Code Optimisation for Heterogeneous HPC Environments. Throughout the event, participants had the opportunity to access the ARM partition of Deucalion to test, optimise and scale applications across heterogeneous HPC environments.

The Deucalion team actively contributed to the programme as speakers and mentors, supporting participants across the various participation tracks and sharing expertise in HPC architectures, optimisation techniques, and performance analysis.

Among the Deucalion and CNCA contributors were Alícia Oliveira, André Sequeira, Andreia Gaudêncio, António Sousa, Bernardo Malaca, Francisco Vide, Miguel Dias Costa, Miguel Peixoto, and Rui Silva.

The event concluded with final project presentations and the awarding of Deucalion compute hours to the top-performing teams, recognising innovation, optimisation performance and technical achievement.

Organised by the EPICURE project, the hackathon gathered researchers and developers at INESC TEC in Porto and online from April 27 to 29, 2026. For three days, attendees focused on practical optimisation challenges involving CPUs and GPUs.
