Deucalion offers a range of computing resources to meet diverse research, public administration and industry needs.

Potential Deucalion users have two pathways to request resources: national allocations and the European-wide EuroHPC quota.

National access

Most Deucalion resources are reserved for consortium countries and allocated according to each country’s funding contribution, through national mechanisms. Researchers affiliated with academic institutions or companies based in a consortium country may apply for these resources.

European access

A smaller portion of the resources is managed at the European level, allowing qualified researchers and organisations from across Europe to access high-performance computing resources on Deucalion.

1What is Deucalion?

Deucalion is a high-performance computing (HPC) supercomputer located in Portugal, integrated into the European HPC ecosystem. It provides advanced computational resources to support scientific research, innovation, and industrial applications.

1Where is the Deucalion supercomputer located?

Deucalion is hosted in Portugal, by the Foundation for Science and Technology (FCT) and operated in partnership with the National Center for Advanced Computing (CNCA), INESC TEC, and the University of Minho, Deucalion is also part of the European supercomputing network under the EuroHPC Joint Undertaking.

1Who can access Deucalion?

Access to Deucalion is available to:

  • Researchers and research institutions;
  • Universities and R&D centres;
  • Public and private organisations;
  • Industrial and innovation projects.

Access may be granted through national calls or European-level programmes, depending on the type of project.

1How is access to Deucalion allocated?

Deucalion’s computing resources are divided between:

  • National access (65%), supporting Portuguese research and innovation;
  • European access (35%), managed at the European level, enabling researchers from across Europe to use the system through competitive calls.
1How can European researchers apply for access to Deucalion?

European researchers and organisations can apply through EuroHPC access calls, which provide access to leading HPC systems in Europe, including Deucalion.
