The European Researchers’ Night 2025 took place on 26 September, bringing science and society together across Europe. In Braga, the Deucalion supercomputer, alongside the National Centre for Advanced Computing (CNCA), joined the programme with a series of interactive activities focused on high-performance computing (HPC).
Throughout the evening, visitors were invited to discover what the Deucalion supercomputer is, how it works, and how it can help address current and future challenges. The stand was designed for different age groups, making complex computational concepts accessible to the general public.
Through activities such as “O Supercomputador em Paralelo” and “A Batalha Paralela de Cores”, younger audiences explored the differences between a conventional computer and a supercomputer, as well as how Deucalion can accelerate research and innovation, producing results faster and with greater impact.
Another activity, “Simulação de Supercomputação”, allowed participants to experience Deucalion’s capabilities through practical demonstrations. Visitors interacted with an AI-powered chatbot for content generation and decision support and explored a deep learning model for global weather prediction, capable of estimating atmospheric variables such as wind, temperature, pressure, and humidity, as well as forecasting extreme events. Through these experiences, participants could compare tool performance across different devices, from a Raspberry Pi to a commercial computer, and up to Deucalion itself.
By taking part in the European Researchers’ Night 2025, Deucalion reinforced its role as a national research infrastructure, showcasing how supercomputing is transforming scientific research in Portugal across multiple domains.
